The glamour of MIPEL 114 wins over buyersExhibitors and visitors in constant growth for the leather goods and fashion accessories fair. For the third time in a row – under the direction of Danny D’Alessandro, General Manager of Assopellettieri and CEO of Mipel – the fair was “sold out”, with more than 65 new exhibitors in Hall 10 and with twice as much space in the Scenario area, the reference hub of the new generation of leather goods manufacturers and on which Mipel continues to invest in order to grow and innovate.

The number of visitors reached 13,000, an increase compared to the fairs of February 2018 and September 2017, the best edition ever, before the one that just ended. The presence of Italian buyers was positive, and in line with those of the last editions. With regard to foreign markets, there was a significant number of visitors from Japan and South Korea – also thanks to the recent international promotional initiatives which saw the last editions held in Seoul (October 2017 and March 2018) and Tokyo (July 2018) – China, Russia and Ukraine (in this case with a significant increase of about 10%).
The two main innovations of this Mipel edition were the presentation of the four capsule collections created by four historic exhibitors of Mipel with the participation of four emerging designers and the launch of the “discord” collection by Yohij Yamamoto, which increasingly confirm Mipel’s mission “to be a creative hub of excellence, a meeting point for operators in the production chain,” commented Riccardo Braccialini, president of Assopellettieri and Mipel. Buyers were also satisfied with the numerous initiatives organised in the name of fashion and with the superior quality offered, also coming from the careful selection of exhibiting companies with strong traditions, craftsmanship, creative flair and innovation.
As for the trends, medium sized shoulder bags and versatile shoppers stand out, slightly larger models than last season. The most characteristic details include the mixture of materials – leather combined with raffia, canvas, denim or rattan – and fringes of all lengths. The colours most featured are vitaminic colours such as orange, mint green and lemon yellow and slightly dusty pastel shades, as well as the widespread presence of the neutral shades of leather, beige and sand, which are easy to wear and to match.
The next edition of Mipel will be held from 10 to 13 February 2019 at RhoFieramilano, once again in conjunction with the Micam footwear fair.
