MIPEL – Hub of creativitySustainability, environmental awareness and social responsibility were the key words at the 115th edition of MIPEL, the last one under the presidency of Riccardo Braccialini. Registrations were up compared to the last edition (+7%) and slightly decreased compared to the February 2018 edition (-2.9%)
The 115th edition of MIPEL was held in mid-February 2019 at the FieraMilano-Rho, the last one under the presidency of Riccardo Braccialini and the fourth led by Danny D’Alessandro, General Manager of Assopellettieri and CEO of MIPEL.
Research, memory, innovation and technology are the keywords of the most important international event dedicated to bag addicted, which each edition brings together over 350 brands and more than 12,000 visitors from all over the world.
The event, organised by Aimpes Servizi Srl with the support of ICE-Agenzia and MISE and promoted by Assopellettieri, registered 50 new exhibitors including La Martina, John Richmond and Cabin Zero, and saw the return of twenty excellent companies, including Valigeria Roncato and Caterina Lucchi, who chose MIPEL to present their collections.
A special installation was set up in the SCENARIO area to promote the ‘MIPEL TAILOR MADE’ proposals, a project strongly desired by Assopellettieri to support ‘Made in Italy’ in the world. The craftsmanship of important leather goods companies joined forces with the talent of innovative designers to create five ‘capsule collections’, a manifesto of the future of leather goods. Of the five collaborations presented in this edition, two of them made their international debut: Athison and Bav Tailor, together for the first time with respectively Valentino Orlandi and Andrea Ciccolo. The Laurafed brand returned to MIPEL with its new partner Ripani. Arcadia and Irma Cipolletta renewed their collaboration, as did Claudia Firenze and Annalisa Caricato.
Data on absolute attendance of visitors improved compared to the September 2018 edition. Taking the September 2018 as a reference, visitors from Southeast Asia decreased, while European visitors increased, with particularly positive performances from Russia (+33%), Spain (+26%), France (+23%) and Germany (+21%). Despite the uncertainties of the domestic market, Italy was once again the top performer, with Italian visitors increasing by 10% compared to the September 2018 edition.
“This is a time to evaluate what has been done in the last period. Despite the difficulties encountered, I am satisfied with the work done by MIPEL during my term of office. With the help and support of the General Council of Assopellettieri and the Board of Directors of Aimpes Servizi Srl, the organising body of MIPEL, we have taken a path that has created the conditions to facilitate business development in favour of our companies and to foster the participation of international players who have made MIPEL more contemporary and able to meet the global market demands,” commented Riccardo Braccialini, President of Assopellettieri and of MIPEL.
The next MIPEL will be held on September 15th to 18th 2019 at the Fieramilano-Rho, simultaneously with Micam, Ho.mi, the lifestyle fair, and in overlap with Milano Fashion Week.
