An exponent of Generation Z but rooted in tradition, Chiara De Nigris has created “Chiarissima,” a Milan-based brand that turns the bag into an ironic, fun, sustainable and inclusive accessory. Made by hand from scraps of leather supplied by the best Italian tanneries and from crochet embroidery, the Chiarissima bags are a tribute to the traditional Apulian technique of sewing together scraps of fabric to make sheets or clothing, which the designer learned from her grandmother. Bright colours, kitschy combinations, handcrafted oval-shaped closures combined with irreverent plexiglass buckets, the bags come in five original silhouettes where animal prints alternate with pastel shades of blue, pink and lilac, and dusty shades of grey and brown. As well as being sustainable, the Chiarissima bags are also inclusive, as denoted by the “Women of the People” campaign, which represents a heterogeneous community, without social, cultural and aesthetic distinctions.
