The positive trend of MIPEL continues: after the September edition that recorded a +19% increase in visitor numbers, the February edition registered a further +11%, thus confirming the fair to be a worldwide point of reference for the leather goods industry, with 300 exhibitors and a public of over 12,000 buyers coming from all over the world. Although the threat of the Coronavirus did generate a drop in visitors from the Far East, it did not discourage the presence of foreign visitors – accounting for 50% of the total number – with a rise in participation by European countries and a return of buyers from Russia and Ukraine. The synergic pathway forged with other fashion shows like MICAM, HOMI Fashion&Jewels, LINEAPELLE and SIMAC allowed the 11% registered at MIPEL to rise to a comprehensive +22% with the other fairs: “The collaboration with the other events held on the same days as MIPEL has made it possible to face a definitely difficult moment for international business, und
erlining how it is necessary to continue in an ever stronger way. This is the Italy that works and teams up to achieve important results and face international competition”, commented Franco Gabbrielli, President of MIPEL and ASSOPELLETTIERI.
Among the themes of this 117th edition, were Italianity, craftsmanship and sustainability, which accompanied exhibitors and visitors at the fair, while echoing throughout the proposals of the collections. Capturing the attention of buyers were also the themed areas of Scenario, the hub of innovation and research with the collections of new international designers and the coolest brands, and the Street Style Area featuring the style directions of the season with an in-depth focus on raw materials. Characterising the moments for business was an extensive programme of talks, events, and performances at MIPEL.
The next edition of MIPEL will be held from 20 to 23 September 2020 at Fiera Milano-Rho.
