The September edition of Mipel recorded an attendance boom (+ 19% of qualified operators compared to the September 2018 edition) thanks, above all, to the strong increase in buyers from the EU and from the main world reference markets of the Italian leather industry. In particular, with regard to the European market, there was a strong increase in visitors from Germany (+ 27.80%), Spain (+ 23.16%), United Kingdom (+ 19.46%), Switzerland (+ 13.22%) and France (+ 8.44%). As for the non-EU markets, it should be highlighted the performance recorded by buyers from South Korea (17.58%) and China (+ 6.36%) . Japan confirms to be the first visitor country of Mipel, followed by the Russian Federation. The panorama is completed by the strong increase in Italian visitors (+ 12.37%).
Commenting on these figures, Franco Gabbrielli said: “We closed an exceptional edition that, apart from the numbers, has gathered satisfaction of exhibitors and buyers, the aspect I’m most interested in. This satisfaction is the best calling card of our trade fair product and gives us the right incentive to work on the future. I have clear ideas about this – continues Gabbrielli – fashion is innovation, courage and a touch of brashness”.
Sustainability and environmental awareness were the leitmotif of the numerous events, talks and workshops held during the days of the event. A great success for the #attaccatialtram contest, supported by the Lombardy Region under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, dedicated to all the MIPEL exhibitors called to create a limited edition product inspired by the iconic Milanese tram with low environmental impact. The 15 finalist brands exhibited their creations within a dedicated area and the award ceremony took place during the evening event of “MIPEL IN CITTÁ”, at the San Pietro Concept Store in Porta Venezia, during which three striking projects were declared joint winners: Jadise, Alberto Oliviero and Ciak Roncato.
The next edition of Mipel will take place from February 16 th to 19th 2020 at Fieramilano-Rho, at the same time as Micam and Homi and overlapping with the first day of Milan Fashion Week.
